What Is the Arkansas Journeyman License?

The Arkansas journeyman electrician license is issued by the Board of Electrical Examiners, part of the Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing under Ark. Code 17-28-101. It is valid statewide and authorizes electrical work under the supervision of a licensed master electrician.

The Requirements

• 8,000 hours (4 years) of documented electrical experience under a licensed electrician.
• Board approval before scheduling the examination.
• Pass the Prov exam — 60 scored questions at a 70% cut-score.

Exam Format: 60 Questions, 3 Hours, Open Book

The exam has 60 scored multiple-choice questions with a 3-hour (180-minute) time limit, scored against a 70% cut-score. It is open book — the 2023 NEC is the only listed code reference. The computerized examination fee is $80.

• Grounding and Bonding — 6 questions. Grounding electrodes and equipment grounding.
• Utilization and General Use Equipment — 6 questions. Receptacles, switches, and general-use equipment.
